Levi Crumley is a stand-up comedian. After his first year of debuting on the Athens comedy scene he has become instrumental in our local comedy ecosystem. Paying his dues at Open Mics and every conceivable stage, hole-in-the-wall and pizza joint he now is an in-demand comic at venues like The Open Toad at Flicker,. Comedy in the Cellar at Onward Reserve, Off The Clock Comedy Upstairs at The Globe! He is also a producer of comedy shows, singlehandedly engineering events at The Upstairs Bar & Comedy Club, The Globe, Mai Kai Kava Lounge and multiple other outlets.
His comedy is rooted in a radical empathy that defines his character. Levi is acutely in-tune with his audiences & he finds common ground to craft biographical comedy from his life experiences that are highly relatable to the audiences he appears in front of. His gift is to present his circumstances and observations with openness and candor that invites crowds to relate and laugh at the same time. He unblinkingly shares comedy from the truth of his life...discussing with sharply funny and upfront truth issues like his struggles with mental health, his battles with addiction and his life as a parent. He draws from experiences of dark pain, fear and sadness and renders them light-filled and hilarious as he invites us to laugh WITH him at circumstances we all can relate to.
Levi derives inspiration from the comedic masters of the 1970's and 1980's. He looks to the multifaceted luminaries of that age of comedy like Johnny Carson, Richard Lewis, David Letterman, Rich Little, Foster Brooks, Don Rickles, Carol Burnett, Phyllis Diller, Paul Lynde, Chevy Chase and Bill Hicks to bring a timeless sensibility to his comedic endeavors. He is a pro-host and MC of events; crafting comedic roasts, variety shows and contests. He is a comic storyteller in the tradition of Tom Bodette and Southern lore masters like Billy Bob Thorton and David Joy. His mastery of the longform art of comic stories is compelling and powerful, as he blends wry narratives with forthright first-person journalistic detail...all filtered through the sensitive soul of a poet.
The upcoming "Eddie's Boy" experience is an immersion into Levi's upbringing in rural Madison County Georgia. His solo comic story telling show will bring us to the hardscrabble life of growing up poor, navigating a difficult upbringing, shining light on addiction and emotional pain, and experiences of unfathomable loss..placing us in the worn-out sneakers of young Levi and shrugging into the football pads of adolescent Levi to the perspectives of a young father living his dream, embracing his truth and caring for his family.
